24 Hours in Barcelona
The cosmopolitan and vibrant capital of Spain’s Catalonia region has a sunny and warm climate year-round, and is the perfect place for a speedy getaway!
9am After a relaxing night in the perfectly located and modern Hotel Barceló Raval, enjoy a buffet breakfast and (complimentary!) glass of cava to get you fully fuelled for a day of soaking up the culture of this vibrant city.
10am Take a short walk up La Ramblas to the Plaza de Cataluna – Barcelona’s central square – where you’ll find many hop-on-hop-off buses. This is the best way to see as much of the city as you can when time is tight. A day ticket starts at 26 euros and will take you around all of the main sites including the fantastical Sagrada Família church, Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya and the pictueresque Park Güell.
1pm You’ll be famished after all of the sightseeing, so hop off and make your way to La Boqueria Food Market, one of Europe’s largest and most famous. This is a real treat for the senses! Enjoy a glass of wine and a seafood platter (middle) followed by some fresh gelato.
3pm After lunch walk down to the water. The coastline here stretches for 4.5km and there are plenty of things to do on the beach besides swim. If you’re in need of a rest, just lie down and soak up the warmth of the Spanish sun with a good book.
6pm There are plenty of places by the water where you can sit back and enjoy some tapas and sangria. On the way back towards the city centre, stop for a drink at the spectacular waterfront harbour, Port Vell, and watch the sunset over the superyachts!
9pm After dinner take a walk around the Gothic Quarter in the old city (bottom) and visit some of the impressive historical buildings. The Cathedral of Barcelona is simply breathtaking, and the Basílica de Santa Maria del Pi is a great place to stop and listen to traditional Spanish guitar.
11pm Sit back with a Spanish beer and take in the city’s skyline on the panoramic 360° roof terrace at Hotel Barceló Raval – the perfect end to the day.
